ALISON WENDE LUFKIN, A DESIGN ASSOCIATE AT TEDRICK & Bennett, married James Douglas
Faber, a chef and the founder of the catering company Bountiful Foods, in Bodega Bay, California.
HOW THEY MET: "It's really kind of funny," Alison says. "He grew up in Litchfield, Connecticut, and I
grew up in Lakeville. We both went to Indian Mountain School and were actually in a carpool together,
but we hated each other at that age. In the carpool, I was sort of the queen bee, sitting in the front seat
and putting on my makeup, and he was this polite little boy whom my mother loved but I never
noticed. Then we met at Denison University, were friends for about ten years, and started dating."
Three years later, they got engaged.
THE PROPOSAL: "It was wonderful," recalls Alison. "We went to one of our favorite spots in Inverness,
California, an incredible inn and restaurant called Mankas Lodge, and we stayed in a cabin for the
weekend. He proposed to me in front of the fireplace. My parents were thrilled; they adore him."
CEREMONY: About 150 guests attended the ceremony, held in Compass Rose Gardens. The we
fine-tuned it to make it more personal," says Alison. Readings were performed by Alison's friend
Kathryn Metz Helm and by Alison's sisters Elise and Abigail Lufkin; Bonnie Brooks sang "You'll Never Be
the Sun." "The song is very beautiful and heart-wrenching," Alison says. "It lasted a couple of minutes,
and it was nice just being with each other and not rushing through the ceremony." THE BRIDAL
PARTY: Alison was attended by matron of honor Lara (Lolly) Schroeder; sister Margaret Lufkin Bishop;
friends Michelle Riche Schuster and Eleanor Stuart Patton; and Alison and James' dogs Chloe (a Jack
Russell terrier) and Quincy (a boxer mix).
RECEPTION: "We had the most incredible food I've ever had in my life," says Alison. "It was definitely
James' doing, finding the caterer--Paula Leduc Fine Catering, out of Oakland. We had wonderful beef
tenderloin, caviar, oysters and smoked salmon, and amazing crab cocktails that looked like Bloody
Marys in shot glasses. "The lemon-raspberry chiffon cake was by Perfect Endings. Music was provided
by The Toastpoints.
THE BRIDE WORE: A cream-colored silk-satin dress with aV waist and long train, designed by Alvina
Valenta.
HONEYMOON: The couple went to Bali and stayed at the Amanresorts Amankila and Amandari. "We
did some trekking up in the rice fields," says Alison. "It was just exquisite."
HIGH POINT: For Alison, "The highlight was having all the people I totally adore together. It was a bit
overwhelming, but so wonderful."
